Who I Am

Lorenzo Belli is a Phd candidate in the program of Political and Social Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Università di Bologna (UNIBO), a master’s degree in Sociology and Social Research from Università di Trento (UNITN) with honours, and a master’s degree in Sociology and Demography from UPF.

He is currently working on the project “Life-course trajectories of abusers and victims of intimate partner violence (DONTHURTME)” lead by Prof. Jorge Rodríguez Menés, and funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación.

Lorenzo's main academic interests include social and gender inequalities, gender violence, and youth and adulthood studies. He is used to working with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. In fact, his bachelor’s thesis entitled “Rape culture and patriarchy in Italian culture. An attempt at intervention” (original in Italian), he studied rape culture as symbolic violence and its various manifestations in everyday life. To do this, she conducted interviews at Unione Donne in Italia in Bologna where she did her internship.

Her master's thesis, on the other hand, aimed to contribute to the literature on women in leadership positions and their effects on employee salaries in Europe (entitled “The Role of Women’s Leadership: Exploring the Impact of Women in Top Positions on their Subordinates’ Salary”). To do this, he performed a multi-level analysis with data from the Sixth European Working Conditions Survey to understand whether women bosses were agents of change or cogs in the machine.
